Kim Gillick

Fellow

Kim Gillick is an independent communications consultant and practitioner-researcher working at the intersection of data, public institutions, and the communities they serve. She specialises in making complex data and policy work legible to the people and communities they address.

Kim has worked across European institutions, mission-driven organisations, and tech-for-good environments. As Communications Specialist for the European Commission’s Big Data Test Infrastructure, a Digital Europe Programme initiative, she built engagement programmes for researchers and public administrations across EU member states. She directly addressed the gap between publishing data, building data-informed services, and reaching those the services aim to help. She also worked with the Centre for Effective Services, an evidence-to-policy non-profit operating across Ireland and Northern Ireland. There, she developed communications for programmes that connect research, data, and policy with communities and practitioners on the ground.

As a fellow at Connected by Data, Kim will be investigating the communications dimension of participatory data governance. She will explore how and why the communication layer between data institutions and affected communities often falls short, and what better practice looks like. She is based in Athens and works across the EU.
